Dr. Sofia Chu is a Family Medicine physician who enjoys serving patients of all ages in various stages in life, by providing comprehensive and personalized preventative, chronic and acute health care. While Dr. Chu emphasizes preventative health care, she appreciates that each patient is on his/her/their own individual journey towards good health. She enjoys developing rapport with her patients and is highly dedicated to educating and partnering with motivated individuals to optimize their health and wellness so that they can meet their health goals and live their best quality life.


Dr. Chu is a personable, empathetic physician, committed to providing excellent primary care to all those under her care. She always finds it refreshing when patients tell her, “You seem to really care,” because Dr. Chu genuinely does. She appreciates the honor of serving as each of her patient’s advocate and trusted provider—supporting, empowering, and working together with individuals to make positive changes for favorable health outcomes.

Dr. Chu received her Bachelor of Arts degrees in English Literature and Communication at the University of Houston. She received her medical education from St. George's University and completed her Family Medicine residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center where she served the underserved community of West Texas. Dr. Chu participated in medical volunteer trips in Central America and Asia. Her interests in public health and global health led her to pursue a Master of Public Health degree at Columbia University where she did research relating to orphanhood and HIV in Uganda, which was subsequently published in The Lancet.

 

She is thrilled to be joining the Leaf Medical team, bringing compassionate and comprehensive primary care to the bold, spirited, hearttful Brooklyn community.  Dr. Chu lives in Brooklyn Heights with her husband, David. She delights in ballroom dancing, traveling, painting, taking her Corgi and Doodle to Brooklyn Bridge Park, and exploring the city with her husband, through dining at new restaurants and enjoying live jazz and choral music.
